History

The Louisiana Tech University Student Government Association (SGA) was formed in 1936 and serves as the official student voice to the Tech Administration, the Board of Regents, the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors and the Louisiana State Legislature. Along with being the student voice, the SGA provides several student services through the SGA student self-assessed fee.

Until the summer of 2003, the SGA offices were located in the Howard Center for the Performing Arts. After the completion of Tolliver Hall in 2003, the offices were relocated to Tolliver rooms 211 and 212, where common areas are shared with the Union Board, Student Activities and Greek Life.

"Our mission is to continually represent the interests and opinions of students, increase student decisionmaking power; to create and promote student leadership opportunities for all students, to improve campus life through the creation and continuation of viable and effective student services, and to support students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors."

To this end, new leaders are elected from the general student population each spring, and weekly open meetings are held to discuss issues, appropriate funds and initiate projects.
