A unique fact about The Big Event is that it is not just for the needy. It is a way for the student body to express their gratitude to a community that supports Louisiana Tech University in so many ways. Past jobs have included washing windows, weeding, painting, planting flowers, and many others. However, it does not matter if the students are painting or cleaning a house. What matters is your presence in saying,"Thanks" on this grand day. The Big Event is not about the number of jobs the students complete, or the number of students who participate each year. It is the interaction with the residents and resulting unity in the community that makes The Big Event so BIG.
As a service to the students on Tech's campus, SGA has provided golf cars which are used to escort students around campus at night. To use this service just call Tech Police at 4018.
SGA provides loans up to $150 to any Tech student once a quarter as long as they meet certain requirements. The student must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, cannot be a first quarter freshman or a graduating senior, and must present a student I.D., another form of identification, and an unofficial transcript. The student has one month to repay the loan. There is a $1.00 service charge on all loans.
(Visit SGA Office for more information)
A Memorial Service is held each spring for our classmates who pass away during their time at Tech. All family and friends are welcome to attend. The date of this service will be posted during the Spring Quarter.
If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, please contact the SGA Office at 318-257-4565 or email us at email@example.com. If you would like to apply for these scholarships, applications will be available this April in Tolliver 211-212. The scholarship amount depends on the donations received.
The department of Academic Affairs recognizes the top graduating seniors with the "Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities" Award. A reception honoring these students is held in January.
A one day extravaganza where campus organizations come together to open doors and help move boxes, TVs, computers, and other "college essentials" for those moving into the dorms for the Fall quarter.
Welcome Week is a host of events jam-packed into 7 days. The purpose of Welcome Week is to get incoming freshmen accustomed to college life and to socialize.
Homecoming Week is a full slate of activities planned every day of the week to gear individuals up for game day.
Tech students are welcome to come by the SGA office (back of Tolliver Hall) at anytime to pick up scantrons for free.
These grants are provided by the Organizational Development Fee that the student body approved in the Spring of 2002. They can be used for any project that will benefit a University-recognized student organization or the campus community as a whole (conferences, competitions, special events, new equipment, etc).
You can drop by the SGA and fax a local number for free. For long distance faxes, we ask that you pay $1.00 for the first minute and $0.50 for each additional minute.
