Who we are
SGA is the Student Government Association at LA Tech University. That means we act as the student body’s voice to University Administration, the University of Louisiana System, and the wider community. Our mission is to work directly with the student body to improve their experiences and open new opportunities to them for growth and involvement. We are 100% student led, and accountable only to you – the students of LA Tech University.
The Student Government Association is dedicated to enhancing the student experience, we commit to proactive leadership, transparent communication, and impactful initiatives that promote student success, well-being, and belonging
What we do
SGA Is composed of three branches: Executive, Legislative and Judicial.
The Executive Branch has the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, all elected by the student body. The President also appoints a cabinet of various Departments to execute the various duties of SGA, like running events, community service opportunities, and public relations.
The Legislative Branch is also known as the Student Senate. The Student Senate is composed of senators elected by the student body. Each of Tech’s five colleges has a certain number of senators, and each academic class has a number of senators. These senators write and vote on legislation that benefits the student body.
The Judicial Branch is also known as the Supreme Court, and is composed of nine Justices who are appointed by the President and serve for two years after appointment. The court is tasked with keeping SGA accountable to the SGA Constitution, University Policy, and the student body.
